Our residents complete a tumor rotation as a PGY1 and PGY5.
ARCOSKeymasterKim, thank you for your feedback as well.
ARCOSKeymasterGreat question and interested in seeing an example myself. Thank You.
ARCOSKeymasterWe have not sent a survey, but it is something I would like to consider. I think we would send to all those we ranked. It would be helpful to see a survey that someone has used.
ARCOSKeymasterWe also have an oncology rotation during the PGY 3 year with the rotation director being our primary tumor guy. They also do some research during this time as well!
ARCOSKeymasterThanks for sharing Dr. Derstine’s comments with us, Donna. I didn’t think there was a requirement by the ACGME regarding how vacations were to be taken. For our program, we have our residents take a week of vacation every 3-months block to keep them from getting burned out.
ARCOSKeymasterLaurel: Thanks for the reply. In a nutshell a Resident it’s an ACGME requirement that every 4 months they get a full week off. I reached out to a couple of coordinators who hadn’t heard that and I checked our PLA. I emailed Dr. Derstine/ACGME who stated there isn’t an ACGME guideline stating that and also replied with this:
“The RC has no requirements about vacation time – the expectation is that vacation policies comply with the institution. If your site is used by an ortho program, then the PLA for use of the site by that program should specify the policies that apply to that rotation – either it will be the program policy of the policy of the site. If the current PLA does not, the program director needs to ensure that an updated PLA is prepared and singed by the program director, site director, DIO and the responsible institutional official at your site. Both the program and site need to have a copy of that PLA on file”

ARCOSKeymasterHave you contacted her home program? The time they get off should be part of what they get from their program per year. Have they given you any guidance? Also, your program should have an agreement with the home program as to what is appropriate – they may not know about this at all. I don’t think the Requirements speak to this. We have never had a problem with this. Best Luck!!
ARCOSKeymasterWe were told 3 weeks per year at CORE PROGRAM. However, the Residents are only with us short time. I have a visiting Resident for 4 months telling me the ACGME guidelines state they get 1 week every 4 months to take off. I am not finding that anywhere. Thank You.

ARCOSKeymasterI called the AAOS Meeting and because I reserved the room directly with the hotel, they were not able to assist me because there is no record of the stay on their system. Therefore, the representative was not bale to take the information. Has anyone had this issue?
ARCOSKeymasterI was in the Paradise Tower and when I reserved the room I did not get a blocked room.
ARCOSKeymasterI thought that all ARCOS rooms were supposed to be together. My room was in the Paradise Tower – were any other coordinators in this tower?
ARCOSKeymasterMy residents will also start a new site in July but wasn’t sure the procedure to go forward so I reached out to Jennifer Luna from the ACGME. She was a huge help. Here is her contact just in case.
jluna@acgme.org Phone: 312.755.5036ARCOSKeymasterI’ve recently went through the same thing. You also need to add this as a participating site on your PLA, which we had to have GMEC approval for, but this may be different at your institution?
ARCOSKeymasterChris,
Thank you for the super quick reply! One more question: Did you have to have GMEC approval or is evidence of DIO approval enough?
