KeymasterI use my phone all the time and there is no reimbursement for the usage of the phone. Other than that I have no other information to offer. Sorry!

KeymasterA letter from the chair of the assessments and evaluation committee was sent out to program directors today regarding OITE and those who were unable to take the exam. Ask your program director for the email if you haven’t already seen it.

KeymasterJust talked to both Christine and Jonathan — at AAOS — and they are sending out an email about the time and clock issue. Should be out shortly.

KeymasterWe also had a few residents that stayed in for the majority of the time. The concern is the 9 hour clock and the 7 hour clock. They system was running very slow – delay between questions, causing issue with testing time management.
We had residents who started the exam and then were kicked almost immediately – their clock started and then they sat for two hour waiting for the exam to reopen. We hope that the clocks will be left open due to this delay (much like the first two years of web-testing)
We reached out to AAOS with concern and requesting ruling on the clock due to the interruption.
Residents are all doing fine now but the 2 to 2 1/2 hour delay in start times has impacted their preparedness.

KeymasterWe had 3 residents out of 19 whose testing was never interrupted. The other 16 have now resumed testing but are concerned about the validity of the exam. Crossing my fingers that the remainder of the exam goes smoothly. The PGY 5s use this as an indicator for how they will do on their boards. They are the ones I really feel bad for.

KeymasterHi All,
My understanding that tis is a tool for the residents to help them towards the Board Exam. This is a huge situation this year. If they don’t take the exam, there is not anything against them, per se. However, for the PGY5’s, this is improtant to them. I hope that all of the coordinators have stuck with the exam and share with the AAOS for the grief that this has caused. They work hard to make this work, and it was not on the AAOS, but who they are having administer the test. However, I am sure they know that ultimately it is there responsiblity and they will take the necessary criticism for this.

KeymasterHi,
I don’t know if any rules/regulations exist, but I contacted Jonathan Sprague at AAOS as my PD is concerned about overall test time/ validity of the exam and we received this response:“We’ll have to make accommodations on the times when they come back in. The validity should be fine as long as the residents aren’t discussing the exam as everyone was pretty much kicked out of their system around the same time.”

KeymasterMy residents were told by residents at other programs were being sent home because their PDs called the exam. Once the level of stress amped up they were pretty much done for. I know scores are going to be impacted. I am also looking for information on requirements — outside of our individual program requirements — as I know this is going to be an issue.
