December 19, 2024 at 1:29 pm in reply to: Ortho Residency Programs interviewing virtually vs. in person this year #6079Kim ReisingKeymaster
We have been back to in-person since last year. During our interviews yesterday, most of the applicants told me that majority of their interviews are in- person this year with very few virtual interviews.

Kim ReisingKeymasterGood morning!
Here at the University of Cincinnati, all applicants that are being interviewed are required to review our Standard Terms and Conditions, benefits, and a sample of the contract, then sign the attached Acknowledgement Letter and return it prior to their interview. I keep the signed forms in my file for the current Match year.

Kim ReisingKeymasterHi –
We pretty much follow the same format as Gabrielle. If our residents attend a mission that is not sponsored by our program, they have to use PTO.

Kim ReisingKeymasterHi Tammy,
Here’s our policy.
Resident Travel Policy for Podium and Paper Presentations:
- Establish budget – $1500 (i.e. airfare/hotel/registration/food/etc.)
- One meeting presentation per project – in the event that abstract is accepted to multiple meetings, the resident is to decide what he/she will present, and the faculty will present at the remaining meetings.
- Resident will travel the day before and the day after presentation(s). They are not required to attend the entire meeting.
Journal Club – our monthly budget is $500. JC is held at a faculty member’s home, and they are reimbursed for both food and alcohol. Anything over $500, they pay for out of pocket.

Kim ReisingKeymasterHi –
As we all know, orthopaedics is very competitive. My guess is that they were told to have a back-up plan?
I had one MD student that matched into anesthesia and everyone one else ortho. So, nothing unusual for us.

Kim ReisingKeymasterHello everyone – happy Friday!
Just a reminder, if you have not emailed your list of residents/fellows to Michael Gagnon at AOC, please take a minute to do this.
There are a lot of great resources for trainees on this site…business of medicine education, navigating job search, education on employment contract and negotiation, and so much more! Membership is free!
We hope to do a virtual session in January with AOC to learn more about this great platform!
