ParticipantHi Sara! We have their completion certificates framed in a custom frame with the University name and seal and the mat is in the University colors. https://www.universityframes.com/. The frames are shipped directly to me and then I put their certificates in the frame. We also give them an executive swivel chair from standard chair, again with the University seal on the front and then they laser engrave the back of the chair with their name and Class of 2023 https://www.standardchair.com/Swivel_Desk_Chair/c55.

ParticipantYou can ge it off an old roster if you have one, but it won’t have your interns obviously. If you subscribe to ResStudy you can pull their AAOS ID numbers from your ResStudy reports.
Something just seems off this year….They really seem to be treating this as a high stakes exam this year, which it isn’t. For those doing in-person the requirements are a nightmare this year.
I always record their ID numbers each year when I register them and add it to my ‘important numbers’ database I keep on then, just a thought for future reference.

ParticipantYou also have to be registered as a proctor now or they will not allow you to have access.

ParticipantGood Morning!
What is the total number of LORs required? 3
What is the maximum number of LORs permitted? 4
How many LORs should be from Adult Reconstruction surgeons? We prefer all letters (exception being a PD letter) be from a surgeon in the specialty they are applying to however recognize that programs may not have that many thus there is not a requirement.
Is one LOR from the resident’s PD required? It is not noted as required but there is definitley discussion when reviewing applications if there is not a letter from the PD.

ParticipantSarah ~ if there is a deadline to respond, it should have been indicated in your LON, otherwise it would just be reported during your ADS update and on your block diagram.
Although, I am curious about your citation. I am not aware of a 20 months of away rotations requirement, nor could I locate it just quickly looking. Have you actully seen this requirement? In your LON where you recevied the citation, it should have stated where this is in the program requirements.

ParticipantI do not charge for them however, many programs at my institution do. The charge is $50.00 – $75.00 depending on the department and is only for verifications for residents/fellows that have been gone 2+ years, verifications within the first 2 years are completed at no charge. The money collected helps to offset program manager conference registration, travel, membership dues etc. They set up an account with Univeristy finance office and accept credit cards for this so it’s quick and easy. In fact, one department has an account set up with FCVS and they automatically make the payment and the request comes with the receipt of already being paid. I think this is becoming more and more the norm so most places don’t give much push back on it.

ParticipantMy residents do assist in the MS1 dissection course for upper/lower extremity dissections. It is the responsibility of the research resident to assist with that and find other residents who might be available to help. My residents enjoy doing this so it has never really been an issue. If available on the day(s) scheduled, my PD and APD go to the anatomy lab to teach as well.

ParticipantTica,
I have attached a copy of the one we use at West Virginia University. It is actually provided by the School of Medicine. They are the same as our residency certificates, just changing what they have completed the duties of…..Fellow in Adult Reconstruction, Fellow in Spine Surgery, Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery. The certificate is signed by the Dean, DIO, Chairman and Program Director.

ParticipantAmanda,
Congratulations!!!
I have done it twice. The key to that statement is all orthopaedic surgery requirements for the PGY-1 have been met, which doesn’t typically happen unless they haven’t completed the general surgery year and you can work with that PD to customize it to meet requirements. That being said, I have also received approval from the ABOS for someone who was short on requirements, we just had to make that time up during their ortho PGY-2 – PGY-5 years. I’m would be happy to talk further with you about this, if you would like. You can contact me at cthompson@hsc.wvu.edu or 304-293-1168.
