Laurie LynchKeymasterHey Bonnie,
WMed requires BLS and ACLS, and provides that during orientation. ATLS is required only for our PGY-1s in their first year. The faculty on our off-service trauma surgery rotation require our residents to have ATLS.
We had dropped ACLS recertification for a few years. But because many fellowships required it, and it was challenging for our graduates to find independent courses, we restored that to our regular recertification schedule.

Erica FryParticipantAt the University of Wisconsin-Madison all residents are required to maintain BLS throughout training. Each program may add other life saving requirements. The Ortho PGY-1’s are required to complete ATLS as part of orientation, but not required to renew. This is required because they rotate with General Surgery Trauma and Emergency Medicine at our Trauma Level 1 hospital.
The Ortho fellows are only required to maintain BLS certification.
Best,
Erica
