My residents assist in the annual M1 dissection course at our medical school.  For them, it’s a 1-2 day commitment and we think it’s good experience for PGY 2’s and up to volunteer their time teaching anatomy to the M1 students.  It’s not mandatory but we usually get 1-2 residents a year that volunteer. I hope that helps.

It is my understand that all rotations have to be a minimum of 6 weeks in length (except for PGY 1 year).  There is no maximum number of weeks.  So yes, they could have a 6 week rotation.
    Thanks!

I agree with Jen about being careful about removing a large number of faculty, however, when we “cleaned up” our faculty roster, we just made note of it in the major changes section, explaining why we removed some faculty (i.e. retirement, addition of new faculty that residents work with more consistently etc.).  If you explain why in the major changes section, it should avoid you getting AFI.

You need to look into whether they are faculty, meaning regular educators of residents, or occasional attendings that the residents scrub with.  Our program has a large private practice group that we work with in addition to the employed hospital group.  Our faculty list consists of core faculty and regular faculty that the residents work with on a consistent basis.  For any attending that they only cover occasionally, they are listed on case logs but not faculty.  I hope this helps.

CORD just released the survey results: https://2wq9z720przc30yf331grssd-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Virtual-or-InPerson-Interviews-Poll-Results9222.pdf

Looks like mostly virtual (61%) of the 41% that responded to the survey. Hope this helps.

We are doing virtual interviews.  My Program Director believes that it’s the best for the students and it’s easier for us to get faculty involved.  We also think it’s actually  helped us diversify our residency because we are able to interview candidates that might not otherwise have traveled to Akron Ohio.

We have the Virtamed Simulator.  We purchased it in 2016.  We are now out of warranty and just this week a part broke on it.  It’s expensive to fix and the warranty is expensive to maintain. They are able to remote into your system and trouble shoot with you, so tech support is available.  The residents like it and we will likely pay to upgrade/repair ours.  We are also going to get virtual reality as well (in addition to the simulator).

    Hi Julie,
I’ve attached our policy for you.  Hopefully it has the language you’re looking for in it. T
    Thanks,

    Hi Vicky,

In the past we have not required Step 2 to review their application.  We are considering it this year but haven’t decided yet if we will.  If we do, we will definitely be putting the information on all of those places to get the word out.

    Thanks,
    Melissa

    Hi David,

We are similar to Laurel’s process.  We do not use milestones as a rotation evaluation tool.  We use Orthobullets Eval Master for end of rotation evaluations.  Even before we used Orthobullets, we had our own evaluation outside of the Milestones for the rotations.  We only do Milestone evaluations every 6 months during the CCC meeting. I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Melissa

    Hi Viveka,

Similar timeline for us.  We can complete them at any time but they are due back to GME by Sept. 1.  We typically start ours in May/June.
    Thanks,

    Melissa

    Hi Donna,

When the students used to come in person, I would give them a folder with information and a branded pen.  Now that it’s all virtual, I don’t send them anything.  Just direct them to information online.
    Thanks,

    Melissa

I think if we do something similar to this next year, we need to stagger the offers and the scheduling to not overwhelm these systems.  Perhaps staggering by time zones when offers go out and when they can schedule would help with this issue.  I don’t think it was any less stressful on the students to have to try and schedule with every program at the exact same time and as we saw in ERAS and Thalamus, it crashed their systems.
