    Hi Katrina,

Our residency diplomas are signed by the president/CEO of our hospital, the dean of our medical school, the chair of our department, and the program director. I have unaccredited fellows as well and the same people who sign for residency have signed for the fellows.

I just stumbled upon the notification on the programworkshop website that said if you downloaded the browser before 11/2 you may need to reinstall it. I wasn’t notified of this through the incident reporting site you could subscribe into. Anyone else not get this message?

We are still undecided about what to do. My PD enjoyed the virtual interviews and wouldn’t mind doing them again. I’m sure everyone will agree that the virtual interviews were a lot easier on us then having in person events. However, I do think that if other programs in our area (NYC) are doing in person, we almost feel like we have to do in person as well to be on the same playing field as them.

I agree with what Starla said about the costs of flights these days and so many cancellations/ delays. What will we do if they can’t make it to the interview day, you would feel terrible if you couldn’t reschedule them. Similarly, I thought about what if a candidate reached out a day before their interview saying they had COVID and wanted to reschedule, but your other interview days were all already full or that happened to be your last interview day. And of course, what if there are students who don’t want to take the risk of cancelling or trying to reschedule so they come anyway.

Will definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I cant’ even log in! I just emailed the applicants letting them know that I would email once I’ve opened the scheduling feature. Many wrote back saying they are unable to get in at all.

I’m assuming that thalamus crashed, but has anyone been able to get in? First ERAS issues on Monday and now this, so frustrating!

I tried sending a bulk message to over 700 people and I got a message back saying delivery failed. I called ERAS and they said they were having an issue with bulk messages and to send batches of less then 100. Very frustrating!

I was thinking about sending a message through ERAS on Monday saying we’d like to extend you an interview invitation, our interview dates are xyz, and letting them know that on Wednesday they will receive the thalamus link to pick their date.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear we may not be the only ones not doing a social the night before.

While we won’t have the expense of the pre interview social events this year, unfortunately the hospital’s budget is tight and we can’t justify sending 100 doordash cards.
While it is a nice idea in theory, we never gave out excessive “swag” or paid for hotel rooms. Since ortho is so competitive and we have so many applicants I don’t think by not doing things like this that we are going to go unmatched.

We have a department facebook, instagram, and twitter that are run by a social media company. However our residents wanted to have something specifically for the residency and so a few of them volunteered to create a residency instagram page. They have full control over the page and take care of the daily posts.

    Hi Melissa,
I haven’t sent an official survey to my selection committee, but we have discussed it a lot! We are planning on having the committee block their schedule the same way they would for in person interview days. Our committee size will remain the same as will the number of students being interviewed. Typically, each candidate goes from room to room meeting the different members. The rooms generally have 2 faculty members. We do have to decide if the 2 faculty members will still sit in a room together, but then will need masks on, or if they will each join from their own office.
Interested in seeing how this interview season will unfold!

    Hi Starla,
Here at Montefiore we will likely use zoom to conduct our virtual interviews. We have been using zoom a lot over the last few months and have been happy with it. We plan to interview 100 students which was the same as last year. Being that the interviews will be virtual I do not think we will get any cancellations.
    Thanks for representing our group!

    Hi Alyssa,

Sorry you are dealing with that, it sounds like a tough situation. Luckily, we haven’t had a problem with any of our residents refusing to care for COVID patients. At this point we have had to give up more than half of our residents to the hospitals general work pool and half of our attending staff is waiting to hear if they’ve been “deployed”. Nobody gave us a hard time about being reassigned, but a lot of concerns raised about the limited amount of PPE available. Everyone is doing the best they can given the situation. I try and check in with the residents as often as possible to see how everyone is holding up.

    Best wishes to all

Our event was booked at Rosen Centre. I reached out to my contact yesterday and all she could say was they are working out the details and she would be in touch soon. All we had paid so far was the deposit and final payment was due next week. We are hoping to only have to forfeit the deposit.
