Hello Angela!  I know not every program belongs to CORD but I think there is probably enough information available in ORIN to be helpful, assuming that the programs that are part of CORD are updating their information in ORIN.  According to ORIN, there are 63 programs interviewing virtually and 116 programs interviewing in-person.

    Hope this helps some.

    Good Morning, Honor!

I have attached a copy of the attestation I have applicants sign.  I email this, along with all the documents that are listed to them.

Hello Ashley!  We also have a simulation lab and VR trainers.  Each subspecialty that utilizes it, mostly sports, has a curriculum they follow when the residents are on rotation.  The residents can also schedule a time to ‘practice’ on their own.

We recently purchased the VR headsets through Precision OS for every resident.  Precision OS has modules and a curriculum already established and meets with the program director as well as any faculty who have an interest for their specialty to customize a curriculum if you’d like.  We were waiting until after OITE to really roll out the VR curriculum so I can’t provide any feedback on it’s utility but based on what I’ve heard/seen, it looks cool.

Hello Sarah!  As others have stated, this is completely up to each institution as to what they permit.  At my institution, you are not permitted to work from home in the first six months of employment.  After that, your work from home status is at the discretion of the department and program director.   I know that the ACGME does not have a policy on this, in fact, many employed by the ACGME work from home.   I know of institutions where the coordinator works entirely from home and in some cases doesn’t even live in the same state where the program is located.  I also know of an institution that requires you to have a dedicated office space in your home as well, again, it is entirely institution/HR dependent.   Hopefully this provides a little more information for you.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I was beginning to wonder what their definition of ‘ shortly’ was…..  I’ve just been watching the Hang tight—someone should admit you shortly screen.

    Hello Heather,

The way we record/track it is when logging duty hours, my residents have to specifically log clinic hours, there is a drop down option for this.  Not only are we able to ensure and prove they are adhering to ACGME guidelines, which honestly is not an concern for our program, we utilize that feature (clinic hours) for reporting the number of hours/percentage of time residents work to our Finance department for budget control sheet reporting to CMS.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly – cthompson@hsc.wvu.edu.

    Amy,

I received a similar panic phone call.  My resident did complete but said it definitely cut his time early and he had to rush through the last section.  The other two residents (not mine) taking at the same facility didn’t complete the last section at all.

I advised the same, email ABOS immediately so there is documentation of it.  They all gave a report to the Pearson Center as well who documented their statements.

    Sarah,

There is nothing that states you can’t do both residency and fellowship, in fact, many of us do both.   It is based on the number of approved positions and each speciality has determined what adequate support is and for Orthopaedics, it is as follows:

    II.C. Program Coordinator
II.C.1. There must be a program coordinator. (Core)
II.C.2. The program coordinator must be provided with dedicated time and support adequate for administration of the program based upon its size and configuration. (Core)
II.C.2.a) At a minimum, the program coordinator must be provided with the dedicated time and support specified below for administration of the program. (Core)

II.C.2.b) Programs with an approved complement of 10 or fewer residents seeking to assign to the coordinator limited additional duties unrelated to program administrative needs must first obtain approval from the Review Committee. (Core)

Additionally, the above is based on support for ACGME accrediated programs, so additional support could be needed if you also manage non-accreditated programs, medical students etc.

    Hope this helps some.

    Have a wonderful day!

There are several things you need to consider…..

    1.  Institutional requirements – what is your institutional policy on this?

    2.  State licensure requirements – what type of license do you require them to have in fellowship and are they able to obtain it?

    3.  ABOS requirements – he would not be eligible to immediately sit for the ABOS.  He would have to pursue certification via the academic pathway.  This requires them to be employed as a full-time teaching faculty member (not as a fellow) in same ACGME accreditated academic institution for 5 years.  I would double check with Sonya Parker at the ABOS to be sure nothing has changed and she can then provide additional information if needed as well.

    Helen,

You can obtain a list of all accredited programs on the ACGME website.  It will show the program directors name and will also give the email address that the program has selected for the public.  Some of them are the program directors email but many are the program coordiantors email or a generic program email.

I have included a link as well as the instructions below in the event the link doesn’t work for some reason.

On the ACGME website, at the top of the page, go to:

    • Institution and Program Finder
    • List of Programs by Specialty
    • Orthopaedic Surgery

    The link is – https://apps.acgme.org/ads/Public/Reports/Report/1

    Have a wonderful day!

Hi Sara!  We have their completion certificates framed in a custom frame with the University name and seal and the mat is in the University colors. https://www.universityframes.com/.   The frames are shipped directly to me and then I put their certificates in the frame.  We also give them an executive swivel chair from standard chair, again with the University seal on the front and then they laser engrave the back of the chair with their name and Class of 2023 https://www.standardchair.com/Swivel_Desk_Chair/c55.

You can ge it off an old roster if you have one, but it won’t have your interns obviously.   If you subscribe to ResStudy you can pull their AAOS ID numbers from your ResStudy reports.

Something just seems off this year….They really seem to be treating this as a high stakes exam this year, which it isn’t.  For those doing in-person the requirements are a nightmare this year.

I always record their ID numbers each year when I register them and add it to my ‘important numbers’ database I keep on then, just a thought for future reference.

You also have to be registered as a proctor now or they will not allow you to have access.
