Vanessa GlotzbachParticipant1- We do not have ACGME accreditation for this program. We determined that it is not necessary for our funding/operational model or to attract candidates. Adult Recon programs may now be AAHKS recognized which is much more economical and offers programs curriculum support. This recognition option is in its 2nd year, and is the route we have chosen for our program.
2- Yes, partially. We apply to many industry sponsors. You may want to start with the companies that are most used in your institution. OMeGA Medical Grants Association no longer exists so companies are either funding grants directly to programs or through AAHKS.
3- We have not had any issues filling our Adult Recon positions. We have two per year since 2012. It may be helpful to connect with AAHKS to see if they can give you a better picture of the competitiveness of the subspecialty using match stats. For some subspecialties there are many more available positions than candidates and vice versa.
Happy to answer any other questions you may have!
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantHi Tica,
I agree to double check with fellowship for what kind documentation they are requesting. When I request this from my incoming fellows I will accept the confirmation email they receive when they register to take their board examination. I believe registration doesn’t open until some time in the Spring so my incoming fellows will typically ensure they will send it as soon as they register.
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantHi Kelly,
I have one I can share with you via email (the file is too large to share here). If you give me a call we can go over how I have it set up, which codes are tracked, and how the formulas in the spreadhseet work, etc.

Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantTwo of our three ortho fellowships will be conducting in-person interviews. The third really liked virtual interviews so they are sticking with that this year.
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantHere are examples of our fellowship certificates.

Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantSome speakers we have enjoyed were:
- Terrance Peabody, MD from Northwestern
- Topic: Educating the Future Generation
- Barbara Hernandez, PhD, MFT, RN from Loma Linda University
- Topic: Thriving in the Fast Lane: Evidence-Based Hacks to Support Wellbeing and Reduce Burnout
- Jeff Frey, MSCS, MBA, PhD from Further Faster
- Topic: Elements of Healthcare Leadership: The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantOur faculty would like to do in-person interviews for all of our fellowships however we are waiting for guidance from AAOS. Based on last year, I imagine that if there are schools who are not allowing travel and are planning for virtual that we will receive guidance that all programs interview virtually to make the interview process more equitable.
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantCan someone post the link to join today? It was not included in the calendar invite and registration is closed so we cannot access it.
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantHi Rhonda,
We haven’t been able to hold much in person but we did build a resource website and we have had a couple financial wellbeing presentations virtually. http://www.hoagorthopedics.org/wellness
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantI used Thalamus for my 4 fellowships last interview season and it was a godsend. It saved so much time and they are building out so many new features.. I cannot wait to use it again this year. We may need to conduct interviews virtually and Thalamus is likely going to be our “one stop shop” for coordinating applications, interview sign ups, and interview day. Also, it was incredibly affordable and has the BEST customer service.
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantI’ll be there!
Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantI also passed in September. I echo everything Laurel mentioned and have one more thing to add. The study resources are on the computer but are in a small pop-up window which was a little challenging to navigate. Instead I used the search function (Ctrl+f) to locate the approximate page the information was on, then use my binder to read the section more thoroughly. Relax and plan to be there for the entire time. Don’t get too caught up on anything but read carefully. You are also able to flag questions and go back to check them later (super helpful). It sounds like you have been studying hard so you will do well being familiar with the layout of the documents. Good Luck!
