Thank you Kim and everyone! I’m very honored to have received this award. It was also a complete shock since my residents and PD nominated me without telling me. It also helps to have the support from all of you- so thank you and I can’t wait to see everyone in March!
Melissa WheelerKeymasterWe ended up pre-recording all the lectures. They are online now for any residents to watch through November 15, 2021.
Melissa WheelerKeymasterRenee- Last year there wasn’t a 48 hour moratorium (where students would get the offers but not be allowed to schedule). That’s why I brought it up. It’s different from last year and I just wanted to put it on everyone’s radar that they might need to think through the logistics of the offers with the automatic scheduling. Thalamus worked great for me too last year. I think I will either do what Courtney suggested – send the offers without the Thalamus links and send them the links on scheduling day or try locking the dates on Thalamus. Thanks!
Melissa WheelerKeymasterMaybe this needs to be it’s own thread, but I just started thinking about the logistics of having a 48 hour moratorium on accepting interviews. For all of the “self-scheduling” softwares out there, has anyone thought about how they are going to stop students from self-scheduling once the offer goes out on 11/15? I think I may have come up with a solution for Thalamus – I’m going to try to use the lock feature on the calendar events and keep them “locked” until 48 hours later. Hopefully that will work. I’m not 100% sure though it will, because if they dates are locked, I’m not sure if candidates can see them or not. I thought this would be a good place to start thinking about how we are going to implement the waiting period this year since it’s new. Thoughts?
Melissa WheelerKeymasterNo cell phone stipend for coordinators at my institution. Physicians and residents get a stipend.
Melissa WheelerKeymasterWe are doing virtual interviews. I’m not sure what our Medical School is doing in terms of away rotations but our institution is not asking/tracking how many away rotations students do.
Melissa WheelerKeymasterWe were told by our GME office this week that we will be virtual again this year here at Summa Health in Akron, OH.
Melissa WheelerKeymasterWe implemented 3 teams, 1 week on and 2 weeks off in terms of in hospital call/coverage. This way if someone gets sick, it has a built in 14 day quarantine time into the schedule. We only have 19 residents. The rest of the time they are at home studying, research and we are doing virtual lectures/discussions.
Melissa WheelerKeymasterOur institution has cancelled all away rotations for our residents and cancelled all students and rotators coming into our institution. They’ve also cancelled all elective surgeries.
Melissa WheelerKeymasterWe pay full expenses to one educational conference a year, full expenses to research presentations, and Miller’s review. They get loopes, radiation glasses and full access to Orthobullets and we pay for Step 3. In addition, we give them a total of $1100 for their entire residency to be spent on educational items (Books, Laptops, subscriptions etc.).
Hope that helps!
Thanks,
Melissa -
