Laurel LewisKeymasterOhhhh, one more thing! We are going to have a very timely (I hope!) presentation for the ACGME Self-Study & Site Visit at the ARCOS Meeting on Friday, March 27, 2020! From the Preliminary Program 2020:
Back by popular demand, a panel has been assembled to prepare us for the inevitable Self Study and Site Visit. On hand will be Dr Lee Segal and Dr William Robertson, members of the ACGME Accreditation Field Staff.
So bring all your questions and we can all learn about this together…as someone said recently about their site visit, “I know I will have a million questions when my time comes!”
#shamelessplugIknow:-)

Laurel LewisKeymasterHi Jennifer,
I have not had a 10-year self study yet, but I would refer you to resources that are available on the ACGME website, for example, https://www.acgme.org/What-We-Do/Accreditation/Self-Study. https://www.acgme.org/What-We-Do/Accreditation/Site-Visit/Eight-Steps-to-Prepare-for-the-10-Year-Accreditation-Site-Visit, but you may have already done that!!! ๐
Second, I would reach out to the field representative to see what they prefer in regards to any items that you may question. I found our site visitor for initial accreditation to be firm but fair and very willing to answer my questions. I specifically wanted to know if I could present my paperwork Electronically so we could view it together on a big screen. She was fine with that and only wanted me to email the files and print just a few items.
I hope we have some people in membership that can give you some pearls of wisdom on this forum. I don’t know that many programs have had this kind of site visit yet. One other suggestion would be to reach out to another program coordinator in your institution who has had a site visit. I know I will be picking the brain of our Emer Med Coordinator-I heard their visit went great!
Best wishes, Jennifer and feel free to reach out to me via email if I can help llewis8@wellspan.org

Laurel LewisKeymasterAnother suggestion…is an AirB&B. I stayed at one in New Orleans and it was nice. I even enjoyed the early morning walk to the conference hotel. I don’t know what you might find close in Orlando, but just a suggestion. Also, check to make sure you will be reimbursed for AirB&B!
Or reach out to the ARCOS membership to see if anyone wants to share a room that they already have reserved. This cuts your hotel cost in half. I share a room and my roomie is awesome! ๐
Laurel LewisKeymasterI would go with “Forever.”
Laurel LewisKeymasterDonna,
Questions: What are your residents’ responsibilities during the time that is blocked for OITE study? Are they off to study independently?
We have a similar schedule beginning at 0630 – 0715 dedicated to different specialties presented by faculty members and then a daily trauma sign out, 0715 – 0800. The didactic sessions try to incorporate OITE topics into their lectures.Welcome, Erin! You are going to be GREAT!

Laurel LewisKeymasterI just passed last Friday! Put all the documents from the site in a three ring binder and make sure you highlight things you may not remember off hand. It is a timed test but move a reasonable pace, and there is a timer for you on the monitor, too. You cannot take anything, even a pen, except your binder, in with you so hydrate and don’t go in hungry. They should provide a locker for you to keep keys and phone. Read each question carefully. I finished with 20 minutes to spare and took no bathroom breaks…I think they give you ten minutes if you ask.
Best wishes! I know you will do well!
