    Hi Lisa,
Our Ortho residents were not re-deployed but did work in platoons until last week (May 27). Praise God, no one has tested positive – faculty, residents, or staff. Our COVID-19 cases are steady and low at our main teaching hospital: 21 in hospital with 7 on vents as of this morning. Elective surgical cases have opened.
I hope this helps and answers your questions.
    Best wishes to all,
    ~Laurel

    Alyssa,
What is meant by this question:
    *how many programs offer?

Could you provide your email address so we can respond to you?
    Thanks!!

    Hi Shawn,
I did zoom interviews for my hand program this year and it worked out well. I used the Waiting Room feature. There was a recent webinar from U of AZ last week that went into great detail, way above my abilities but it gave some great ideas that could be implemented for residencies.

The ARCOS Board is working on a plan for a future virtual meeting for virtual interviews, so stay tuned.

    Hi Ramona,
Please check your email for a message from ARCOS President Kim Reising for an invitation to a “LIVE/Virtual” presentation with Dr Pam Derstine, our ACGME Executive Director for the Orthopaedic Review Committee. It is on this Thursday at 2PM via WebEx. We have asked her to go over the new changes coming up in the Common Program Requirements (CPRs) as well as specific items, like the Annual Program Evaluation (APE) and Action Plans. She also has a section on what we are to be documenting during the COVID 19 Crisis, and much more!

Ohhhh, I hope I have not given too much away! Looking forward to “seeing” you all there!!

    Kelly,
Another option would be to post the information on this forum for all the coordinators. One post could hit all members!
    Stay healthy, All!

It seems that every time Jen posts something in Boston, it happens the next day in Pennsylvania! We have the option to work from home so I will probably start tomorrow. Also, starting tomorrow in PA, all “non-essential stores” including restaurants and bars are to close for 2 weeks, at least. Grocery, medical, and trash collection will continue. You can get take out at a place that serves food, tho. All med students have been sent home, all meetings and education has been canceled for 2 weeks all over the system. All elective surgeries have been canceled. I have attached information regarding our surgery scheduling in this situation.

Residents have not been told that they are “on reserve” but we have canceled all their education and surgeries so they will be “home schooling” with OrthoBullets and research projects which have not been canceled hahaha.
I am scheduling our Hand Fellowship Interviews via Microsoft Teams video conferencing in April. That should be interesting – at least I will be learning a new skill. 🙂
Blessings to all! I’m not very good a “Home Working” so keep in touch!

    Re: Sally’s Post
To cancel my room at the Rosen Hotel, I followed the same protocol that you did and had no problems: Call the hotel, get cancellation number, call the AAOS 800#, give them the cancellation number to receive my one night hold for the room. Not sure when I will get it but I cannot imagine what a disaster it is in Orlando as they have had other conferences cancel, as well.
I am lucky not to have an Alumni Event to cancel so best wishes to you all on that issue.

I guess it IS time for good news. As of today, WellSpan York Hospital (York, PA) does NOT have a travel ban and my residents, faculty, and I look forward to attending our conferences, AAOS, CORD, and ARCOS!!

in reply to: ACGME Faculty Survey – Fellowships #1919

This year was a very odd year for whom they chose to send the “faculty” survey. They also sent it to our non-faculty members, too. I am meeting with our certified hand therapist tomorrow to show him how to get into the survey. I emailed facsurvey@acgme.org on Feb 10:

Are non-physician faculty being surveyed this year? We have a certified hand therapist who participates in clinic with our fellow. He is listed for the first time to complete the survey. Should we remove him from Faculty? Or does the ACGME want him to participate in the Faculty Survey?

    Their response:
For subspecialty/fellowship programs ALL active faculty members (physician and non-physician) on the Faculty Roster will be scheduled to participate in the Faculty Survey except for the program director. Your program’s Faculty Roster should currently align with the Review Committee (RC) faculty instructions.
Please review the Physician & Non-Physician Faculty Instructions located on the Faculty Roster page to determine the faculty meeting those instructions are on the roster while being cognizant that all faculty listed have to complete the Faculty Survey. If you need further interpretation or confirmation that your faculty roster is adequate, contact your Review Committee.

Should you decide that individual faculty are to be removed from the program’s Faculty Roster, select the deactivate button on the faculty member’s record, then provide the date and reason for removal. The removal will reflect over to the Scheduled Survey Takers page after 15 minutes. Please note that entering additional faculty to the roster will not schedule them for the Faculty Survey.

Of course, I thought we just “did it wrong!” Thanks for posting, Erica!

    Hi Renee,
Here is the information for how our residents can use their education funds. Our Ortho Service line also pays for such things as lead and required conferences, too, outside of the education allowance given by the Hospital. I hope you find this useful!
