Hi Kierstin,

Over the past 2 years I’ve worked with our Program Director to increase our faculty development.  As a program we started to offer a Grand Rounds on the fifth Thursday of the month that is geared specifically towards Faculty Development.  This equates to 3 times per year.  Here are a few virtual guest speakers that we had and received positive feedback on.

Dr Terrance Peabody – “Educating the Future Generation”

Dr Samir Mehta – “Teaching in the OR” and “Teaching on the Run – Principles and Practicality in Resident Education”

At UPMC Central Pa our program has dedicated pediatric rotations.  As a PGY2 they complete a 13 week peds rotation and then as a PGY4 they complete another 13 week peds rotation.

Good morning,

At the moment all of our residents are DOs and haven generally taken the AOBOS boards, which are in May.  So our residents take the AAOS Orthopaedic Board Prep/Review held in April.  We allow them to attend and are not required to use PTO or Conference days for this.

Our graduation ceremony is held on the last Friday in June.  After that takes place we usually allow them to leave…this year it ended up giving them 4 days off, in 2023 with how the days fall, they’ll be working up until the very end.
