    Good Morning,

I am wondering if any other institutions host social events for their sub-I rotators while they are rotating with you.

If so, what do you do for the social event (happy hour, dinner, etc.)? Also, who from your program is invited to attend and do you have a budget for each event?

    Thank you,

    Tyler

    Hey Tyler,

At UCSF we do host a Sub-I event, typically on Thursday of final week of rotation. Usually a happy hour type event, 50% alcohol 50% food is what is allowed. Sub-Is and residents are the attendees, no faculty. Yes we have a budget, can email at dan.peterson@ucsf.edu for more information.

    Best,

    Dan

    Hi Tyler,

We don’t have social events specifically for the visiting students, but they are invited to join the residents/faculty for journal club dinners or review dinners that take place while they are here with us (same for the home students – M4 acting interns / not M3s).

To note – we only have up to 5 acting interns per 4-week block so not many there to regale with a whole event.

    Hi Tyler,

We do sponsor an end-of-rotation event for our rotators. This event is hosted by one of our residents at their home, and we have been doing this for approximately four years.

It originally started as a pizza party, which did not require much of a budget, so we allocate $200 per month for the event. If the resident hosting would like to do something other than pizza, they are welcome to, but the budget remains $200.

Attendance is limited to the rotators, residents, and their significant others and/or children. I attend occasionally as well, but faculty do not attend.

We increased from 4 to 5 residents per year this July, so I anticipate the budget to begin increasing as well.  We also only host 5 sub-I’s per month.

One of our residents plans the med student socials each month.  They go to a brewery the last week of their rotation.  All 26 residents are invited along with the 5 rotating med students.  We give them a maximum of $500 to spend on food including tip and we don’t reimburse for alcohol.  (hospital policy)

Yes, the University of Utah hosts a Sub-I social event on the last Thursday of the 4-week rotation. Only residents can attend with the 7-9 rotators we have per month. It’s at a local bar with a private dining room, and we spend around $40 per person, which includes alcohol.

    Hi Tyler!

We host sub-i socials on the last Friday of rotations, coordinated by two resident leads. Only residents and rotators are invited and we see about 20-30 attendees on average. They tend to pick local breweries and restaurants and are told to keep costs under the meals per diem rate in Seattle.
