    Hi everyone!

I know you are all busy reviewing applications or at least reviewing statistics on the number of applications submitted. Yay for recruitment season!

A few students have asked if they can withdraw letters of recommendation they have already submitted. We allow for 3 letters, and a few had 4 submitted, but want to withdraw those letters. I think it’s crazy to even ask the question, but nevertheless, here I am.

    Hello Honor!

I have included the link to ERAS for reference but once a document has been assigned to a program, it cannot be withdrawn.  The only exception is to the personal statement.  Hope this helps.  https://students-residents.aamc.org/eras-tools-and-worksheets-residency-applicants/faqs-eras-residency-applicants?topic=myeras-documents

Happy beginning of interview season everyone!!

    Hello,

A couple of students emailed me to verify the number of allowed LORs at our program. One said there’s been a lot of chatter about programs not even looking at you if you submit 4 LORs when 3 were the max stated for the program. That’s too much stress to even think about!

    Hi everyone,

Can you please share fellow evaluations that you use for your program?

We don’t have an evaluation form, but I’d like to create one for our Program Director.

    Thanks!

As long as the applicant has at least 3 LORs (one being from the Chair &/or PD), then that should be good.  ERAS allows for 4, so we consider that 4th LOR as optional but not as a negative or something to withdraw.  It’s when they directly email additional LORs – that’s not really appropriate.

p.s.  How is it recruitment time already?!?   Good luck, everyone!

Thank you for the link, Cindy. I shared that with my PD.

Yes, it is hard to believe that recruitment season is already here. It seems like yesterday was graduation.

I am surprised and perhaps a little disappointed to learn that programs that require three letters are not considering applicants who happen to submit four letters.

Does anyone know why this Geographic preference is blocked across our specialty on the ERAs applications ?

    Hi Allyson,

My understanding is that institutions can implement screens. It is possible that all our institutions have screened out geographic preferences. Although that would be kind of incredible.

This is the screen, when we looked into it further our DIO stated it stated it was a specialty specific block by ERAs. They stated that all Orthopedic surgery made the decision to have it blocked. Is anyone else seeing this?

I can’t remember where I saw it now, but I saw something that Ortho wasn’t participating in the geographic preference option this year. I know I saw it on the AAMC website when I was thinking of attending one of their webinars on it, but don’t remember if CORD ever sent anything out. My institution blinds everything until we have our invitation list anyway, so I just glanced at it and moved on!

From my PD, ortho is in a study regarding geographic preferences, so it is screened for everyone.
