Hello!  Looking to see what other programs require for BLS/ACLS/ATLS for your residents and fellows?

Here at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital, all incoming residents complete ACLS/BLS during orientation. Residents are no longer required to have ATLS Certification.

    Hey Bonnie,

WMed requires BLS and ACLS, and provides that during orientation. ATLS is required only for our PGY-1s in their first year. The faculty on our off-service trauma surgery rotation require our residents to have ATLS.

We had dropped ACLS recertification for a few years. But because many fellowships required it, and it was challenging for our graduates to find independent courses, we restored that to our regular recertification schedule.

Duke requires ACLS and no longer requires BLS.  The Surgery Department requires ATLS for first year residents.

Univ of Mississippi requires, schedules, and pays for ATLS (as a PGY1 class). They are not required to renew yet are encouraged to renew BLS, ACLS  – as many fellowships require.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison all residents are required to maintain BLS throughout training. Each program may add other life saving requirements. The Ortho PGY-1’s are required to complete ATLS as part of orientation, but not required to renew. This is required because they rotate with General Surgery Trauma and Emergency Medicine at our Trauma Level 1 hospital.

The Ortho fellows are only required to maintain BLS certification.

    Best,

    Erica
