Hey friends! I am looking to have a discussion with some folks in our community who feel competent/confident in ABOS RRA form reporting. I have struggled with the “best” or the “most right” way to report our clinical rotations and number of weeks, and would like to pick the brain of someone who feels confident in their RRA logging. You can respond here or email me directly (landh011@umn.edu). We could do a 30-45 min zoom in the next week to connect. TY!!!

    Hi Anna,

I’m not sure I’d consider myself an expert, but over the years I started keeping a little cheat sheet for myself of how I “coded” each rotation so I could keep it consistent from year to year. I also stopped overthinking it so much because anytime I’ve asked ABOS, they’ve always said it’s up to the program to decide how to report each rotation.

I’d love to join! I created a cumbersome process that collects this info in MedHub then transfers it to Excel to get actual calculations. I’d like to see what others are doing and find a better way to do this. Reach me at helen.anderson@hsc.utah.edu

I’m in for this one as well!

I said the same thing as Courtney.. don’t know about expert, but have a standardized approach. Also similar to Helen, I have math going on in my Excel template so I only type the # of months.

Attached my template.. Its not perfect, but it helps me project numbers out when drafting the master schedule, etc. and then its there and ready when I login to submit the RRA forms to ABOS.

I have considered revamping it, but not sure I want to spend the time on that. I’m curious if there’s a way to translate out of New Innovations the way Helen does from MedHub…    Anyone have that taken care of already and willing to share??  Or a fancy AI process that’s faster (and reliable)?

Despite doing RRAs for many years, I’ve never felt like I’m doing it “right.”

Coming from a very large program and one where resident schedules have a fair amount of variety, I always dread the RRAs and wonder how I can do better, more efficiently and accurately. It’s really gotten more complicated now that’s we’re also reporting weeks in specialties, which has also forced me to be more intentional about tracking which rotations residents take vacation and LOA from. I’d be happy to meet, share what I have been doing and learn from others.

To Courtney’s point, ABOS does leave it up to programs so you have flexibility and every program will end up doing it somewhat differently. But you do want to have a system you can reproduce each year that makes sense for your program.
