We would like to remind/continue our Special Tribute to Patsi Furr

The ARCOS board in conjunction with the ABOS honored Ms. Patsi Furr at our 2018 annual meeting, with the creation of the “Annual Patsi Furr Coordinator Lecture”.

Patsi was the warm and friendly voice on the phone when we were all panicking about of RRA’s or our resident’s boards registrations. More than that, Patsi is a friend to each and every ARCOS member.  We loved having her at our meetings and it is simply not the same when she is not able to join us.  Patsi has been that friendly go-to person at ABOS for over 20 years.  She is a truly special and loving person and she is always fun to be around!

Dr. Martin became Executive Director at ABOS just a few years ago. But, it didn’t take long for him to become aware of Patsi’s deep impact on orthopaedic coordinators.  As such, in the Fall of 2017, he approached ARCOS with the idea of honoring Patsi in some way.  He knew we were just the group to partner with, given our close relationship with her and our affection for her.  Over the past few months, Dr. Martin worked with the ARCOS board, particularly with Vicky and Artina, to find the perfect mechanism by which to honor Patsi.  The result of these efforts was the creation of the “Annual Patsi Furr Coordinator Lecture”.

A plaque was presented to Patsi in recognition of the creation and the endowment of the “Annual Patsi Furr Coordinator Lecture”. An additional plaque, which will reside at the ABOS headquarters, was presented to Dr. Martin.

Under this lectureship, every year, a coordinator from the ARCOS membership will be chosen to present at our meeting.   The chosen coordinator will receive a waiver of registration fees for this conference and will receive a plaque acknowledging their presentation.  The ABOS has graciously endowed this lectureship in perpetuity in honor of Patsi’s contributions to the ABOS and to her relationship with all orthopaedic coordinators.  The inaugural recipient of this award was Ashley Landreneau. Ashley is currently the Director for Credentialing and Education at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.  She also coordinates the sports medicine and adult reconstruction fellowship programs.  Ashley gave a wonderful presentation that offered many suggestions on “How to perform the most effective interview process for your program”.  We applaud Ashley for her dedication to graduate medical education, her courage in sharing her expertise with our group, and her commitment to your professional development.

ARCOS would like to thank Dr. Martin and the entire ABOS for allowing us to collaborate with them in establishing this award and for its gracious endowment.

Congratulations to both Patsi and Ashley.
