    Hi Lynne:

My program director and I were looking at the low number of applications our program had yesterday (about 300 less) and she said that’s a good thing.  She said instead of applicants applying to every single program in the U.S. they are only applying to the ones they are really interested in going to.  I think this was discussed at a CORD meeting and PD’s were asked to help spread the word to med students about not applying to everything.

Hi Tonya.  I run the log activity report on the ACGME case log site every Friday.  Our residents are required to log their cases for the week by noon on Friday.  I select all residents, aggregate report layout and put the current week in.  You can look at the date of last entry to tell when it was updated.  If one of the residents didn’t log their cases, I text them and they usually log by the end of the day.

Hi.  We send our PGY-5’s to the Miller Review Course in May.  They are also given the last 2 weeks of June off to study for their boards.

Attached is our OITE Review Schedule (July-Nov).  The role of the attending is to be available to go through the high-yield questions from the Orthobullets test (which is prepared by the assigned resident and shared with the faculty member prior to the review),  with the residents. Faculty knowledge is invaluable in helping the residents work through difficult questions and provides another level of insight on how to approach test questions for OITE and board review.  In addition to OITE on Friday’s, May (through October) we have a weekly OITE Review (on Monday nights at 5:00 PM).  We pay for the residents dinner and whoever wants extra study time is welcome.  It is led by a chief resident.   I’ve also attached our conference schedule for the month which includes a Journal Club and Dissection Lab.

    Hi Noreen:

Our program has weekly didactics on Friday mornings from 6:45-10:45 AM.  We have Grand Rounds for an hour then a basic science lecture followed by block conference.  From July-Nov we also add an OITE Review.  Our residents are all required to attend Grand Rounds, after that, only the night float resident and our chiefs on Trauma and Fracture Service are excused from the rest of didactics.  I monitor attendance on MedHub.  We never have a problem with residents not showing up.
