Becky HoebekeParticipant
We’ve had a resident on maternity leave over the OITE testing period one year. AAOS wouldn’t allow her to take it another time for her score to be counted towards the PGY/Program scores, so she just skipped the exam that year. I’ve also had residents not available on our designated testing day, so I proctored them in-person on another day within the 2 week window, and AAOS never questioned it. Hope that helps!
Becky HoebekeParticipantOur institution is requiring all interviews to be virtual (Spectrum Health/Michigan State)
Becky HoebekeParticipantOur simulator broke all the time, so this year we’ve moved to virtual reality simulation and purchased Oculus headsets for the residents. They’ll be using learning modules through OSSO VR that will track their progress. We’re still building curriculum and finalizing the agreement with OSSO so the residents haven’t started yet but they will be soon, and they’re really excited for it.
Becky HoebekeParticipantGood morning!
Spectrum Health/Michigan State University in Grand Rapids also offers scholarships!
Becky HoebekeParticipantVanessa, would you mind sharing what the pricing is like? Is it based by how many people you invite to use it, per program, per institution, or different pricing plans? I think we may request a demo, but our GME manager would like to get an idea ahead of time how the pricing compares to Interview Broker (what a lot of our programs use now).
Becky HoebekeParticipantI’m in Michigan and our institution has banned all out-of-state business travel (personal travel is fine) for non-essential trips. Conferences/presentations are not considered “essential” so I won’t be attending ARCOS and our faculty/residents won’t be attending AAOS.
Becky HoebekeParticipantDepending on how many faculty we have available, we’ll have a total of 5-7 rooms.
Our PD has a room himself, our Chiefs have a room, and we pair up the faculty to separate rooms.
All rooms are going at the same time for 15 minutes and a 5 minute break in between each candidate (and break for lunch). All candidates rotate through all of our interview rooms. Also, our PGY1s are excused from their service during interviews and are assigned to a room, so they can bring the students to their next interview. I attached a sample of what one of our interview days looks like.Attachments:

Our didactics are set up monthly, and are based by sub-specialty:
January – Spine
February – Adult Recon
March – Faculty Development
etcFor the months that are sub-specialty focused, we have assigned Curriculum Chairs (faculty that have volunteered to lead the month every year) that will plan the weekly grand rounds topics/speakers, Journal Clubs, skills labs, and invites visiting professors. Otherwise our PD will plan the other months.
I’ve attached a copy of a recent Conference schedule that is distributed to residents, faculty, med students, etc.
Hope this helps you! Good luck!

As for the residents, I generally know what kind of activity they have and start from there. Then I search PubMed to see if anything comes up for faculty or residents. I’ve attached a screenshot of what my Wufoo form looks like.
