Good afternoon!
I looked through common program requirements and the new coordinator handbook and couldn’t find anything, but do you guys know if a coordinator can work hybrid? Like mainly work from home but come into the office when necessary?

The ACGME leaves it up to your program/institution as to how you are permitted to work; as you already know from reading the CPRs (Common Program Requirements: https://www.acgme.org/programs-and-institutions/programs/common-program-requirements/ ).
I am lucky that I have the option from my institution to work hybrid. I don’t often work at home but it is nice to have that option.
I know of many coordinators who have worked almost exclusively at home and just pop in when they are needed. In fact, for about 2 years we had a FM coordinator at WellSpan who moved from PA to FL and she kept her job for that time.
I hope we can hear from others as to their situations so that you have some other views!

November 21, 2024 at 5:09 pm #6038Laurie LynchKeymasterHi Sarah,
I’m work a hybrid schedule, 3 days in the office and 2 days at home. My days in the office are coordinated with my program director’s administrative days so we are both in at the same time. The other residency coordinators here at WMed each have their individual arrangements depending on the needs of their department and their leadership. For example, Med-Peds is almost exclusively work from home. The Pediatrics coordinator is in the office Monday and Wednesday, and their 2 admins cover the other days of the week. Surgery coordinator and admin are in 2 days a week, Tuesday, and their Thursday conference day. Our Resident Affairs department is exclusively working from home, they are in the building once a quarter for a breakfast meeting! Our institution left it to the leadership of each program/department to decide what would work best and did not impose a one-size fits all arrangement. Hope this helps!

November 22, 2024 at 11:03 am #6040Gabrielle ErbacherParticipantHi Sarah, in my institution they allow us to work a hybrid schedule. 3 days in office and 2 days home. There are restrictions on our WFH days and we must keep a log and hand it in to our manager. Being newly promoted to Program Manager I only work from home one day because what would be my other WFH day I go to my clinic and work with my PD. I hope this helps. Please fill free to reach out if you have any additional questions!
November 22, 2024 at 11:15 am #6041Theresa MoraParticipantMy institution allows me to work Hybrid since pandemic. 3 days a week in the office. We just need to submit a remote/hybrid agreement yearly. I also worked on Saturdays during our residency recruitment.

At my institution, you are not permitted to work from home in the first six months of employment. After that, your work from home status is at the discretion of the department and program director. I know that the ACGME does not have a policy on this, in fact, many employed by the ACGME work from home. I know of institutions where the coordinator works entirely from home and in some cases doesn’t even live in the same state where the program is located. I also know of an institution that requires you to have a dedicated office space in your home as well, again, it is entirely institution/HR dependent. Hopefully this provides a little more information for you.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Cindy
