    Hello everyone,

There have been some conversations within our faculty regarding VR/AR usage and how it is being used within residency programs. Does your program use VR/AR within their program, if so how? Which programs/companies are being used? Thank you in advance!

Not sure if VR and simulation equipment are under the same category. Our hospital has a simulation equipment for knee, hip and shoulder, bought from Simbionix / Surgical Science. We did just receive approval for a simulation lab that is in the works for 2025/2026 for the different residencies across the hospital, for everyone to use.

Our program has a simulation lab, sawbones lab, and VR Trainer (VirtaMed Arthros  – Hip, Knee, Shoulder units).

We are in the process up updating the contract / software platform. We recently tested some VR headsets through Precision OS (Meta Quest).

Residents have access to the sim and sawbones labs 24/7. It is expected that they take some time to practice while on specific services.

Hello Ashley!  We also have a simulation lab and VR trainers.  Each subspecialty that utilizes it, mostly sports, has a curriculum they follow when the residents are on rotation.  The residents can also schedule a time to ‘practice’ on their own.

We recently purchased the VR headsets through Precision OS for every resident.  Precision OS has modules and a curriculum already established and meets with the program director as well as any faculty who have an interest for their specialty to customize a curriculum if you’d like.  We were waiting until after OITE to really roll out the VR curriculum so I can’t provide any feedback on it’s utility but based on what I’ve heard/seen, it looks cool.

    Cindy
