Vacation Policies

Question for residency coordinators. I know the ABOS mandates 46 weeks of work/year, but I’m curious what your institutions have for a vacation policy, or days away policy if it includes trip/sick days. We are possibly looking to change our policy, but want to see what others offer. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Our institution gives house staff officers 4 weeks vacation per year. It is our department policy that vacation days must be taken in week increments. You may take two weeks at a time, but no more then 2. Our Chief Residents only take two weeks vacation as they leave 2 weeks early in June to focus on studying for the boards.
