FYI…
AOA/CORD recommends a Universal Interview Offer Day. On Monday, November 15, 12:00pm EST, CORD member orthopaedic surgery residency programs will send interview offers to medical students. Different than last year, there will be a 48-hour moratorium on accepting interviews, and then students will have 24 hours to schedule interviews. Details are below in the link.

October 12, 2021 at 12:49 pm #3008Melissa WheelerKeymasterMaybe this needs to be it’s own thread, but I just started thinking about the logistics of having a 48 hour moratorium on accepting interviews. For all of the “self-scheduling” softwares out there, has anyone thought about how they are going to stop students from self-scheduling once the offer goes out on 11/15? I think I may have come up with a solution for Thalamus – I’m going to try to use the lock feature on the calendar events and keep them “locked” until 48 hours later. Hopefully that will work. I’m not 100% sure though it will, because if they dates are locked, I’m not sure if candidates can see them or not. I thought this would be a good place to start thinking about how we are going to implement the waiting period this year since it’s new. Thoughts?

October 13, 2021 at 12:44 pm #3010Renee PoeParticipantIf memory serves me correctly, everything that had to do with invited individuals, I sent through Thalamus last year. I would have to go back into Thalamus to be absolutely sure. I do remember that it worked out perfectly.
October 13, 2021 at 12:49 pm #3011Melissa WheelerKeymasterRenee- Last year there wasn’t a 48 hour moratorium (where students would get the offers but not be allowed to schedule). That’s why I brought it up. It’s different from last year and I just wanted to put it on everyone’s radar that they might need to think through the logistics of the offers with the automatic scheduling. Thalamus worked great for me too last year. I think I will either do what Courtney suggested – send the offers without the Thalamus links and send them the links on scheduling day or try locking the dates on Thalamus. Thanks!
October 13, 2021 at 1:42 pm #3012Starla PathakParticipantHi all –
I actually reached out to Jason at Thalamus and the text below is what he emailed me – they will be sending those of us who are using Thalamus a guide on how to proceed.
Thank you for confirming this information (we had been made aware prior). And the good news, is Thalamus can definitely handle this (we’ve done similar in the past with Urology, Plastic Surgery, etc.).
Our team is finalizing instructional materials for programs in how to set this up. There are two ways to manage this: 1) Private events and 2) Closed Events (and then essentially making the events non-private or open at the end of the 48-hour moratorium). We’d also recommend programs communicate clearly to the applicants in the Thalamus invite regarding this process. Either method will work, and the programs can choose which one better suits their needs. We will have these materials available likely be early next week, and will include a guide with step-by-step instructions.
More to follow from our team, but yes, please reassure the coordinators in the forum that Thalamus has this covered.
Please let us know how else we can assist and more to follow.
Best,
-Jason
