Our program is accepting a PGY-1 from a Surgery Prelim program.
I am a new coordinator, in department about a year.
Can anyone let me know the process to give credit for the prelim months according to the ABOS guidelines?
Also, are there restrictions from ACGME to check as well.

Amy, I also don’t know and am in a similar boat. If you learn anything, I would love to have you share it.

You will need a letter from the surgery program stating what rotations they completed/will complete during the prelim year and along with that letter, your PD will need to send a letter to the ABOS asking permission to allow those rotations to count in your ortho program. The ABOS will then respond with what if any they will allow credit for in the PGY-1 ortho year. Make sure you keep copies of all correspondence with the ABOS. Happy to discuss further if you would like to contact me directly – cthompson@hsc.wvu.edu or 304-293-1168. Cindy

Thank you very much for the information.
Does there have to be any ACGME approval or just from the ABOS?

    Just ABOS
