ParticipantHello!
We are a new program and will be graduating out first residents in June 2023. The residents are requesting the last two weeks of June off to attend the Maine review course and off from clinical duties mid June to pack and move. They are stating that this is what others programs do. What do your programs do for board review courses? And when is their last day of clinical duties? Any information is helpful!
Thank you in advance!

ParticipantWe allow our graduates to take the last week of June only. This year their last day of clinical duty will be Friday June 23rd. We have used the Miller Board Review Course for many years. The course takes place in late May, so it doesn’t interfere with the hectic month of June.

KeymasterHi Sara,
We now send our PGY5’s to the Miller Review Course so that they can get a head start on the final preparations for the board exam in July.
Prior to the Miller Review Course, we did send them to the Maine Review Course. The last day of clinical duties for our PGY5’s was on the Thursday before the course started and they were off for the remainder (last 2-weeks) of June to attend the course.
Now that we send them to the Miller Review Course, they get the last 2-weeks of June “off” but have to come in one week to study and then they can use their last week to move, etc. as we make them use vacation time for the last week.

InactiveHello Sara,
Our program uses the Miller Review Course which is held in May. (MillerReview.com) The Maine course usually too late in the year, bumps into graduation or is too late for reimbursements to be processed before they are no longer an employee.
We usually allow them to leave after our graduation ceremonies in late June. They usually get a week off to pack and move.
Hope that helps.

ParticipantGood morning,
At the moment all of our residents are DOs and haven generally taken the AOBOS boards, which are in May. So our residents take the AAOS Orthopaedic Board Prep/Review held in April. We allow them to attend and are not required to use PTO or Conference days for this.
Our graduation ceremony is held on the last Friday in June. After that takes place we usually allow them to leave…this year it ended up giving them 4 days off, in 2023 with how the days fall, they’ll be working up until the very end.
Hope this is helpful.

ParticipantGood Morning,
We send our residents to the Miller Review Course in May. We require our Chief’s to take their last two weeks (6/17-6/30) as vacation. They get 4 weeks a year so that means that they only get two weeks throughout the year to use.

KeymasterHI Sara
We are “that program” that gives the PGY-5s 2 weeks off at the end of June to attend the Maine Course and study.

KeymasterThe University of Chicago generally send PGY5s to Miller Review in May. A few have opted to attend the AAOS in Chicago if they have some other conflict (e.g. parental leave). The last day of clinical activity for the PGY5s is June 23rd. They are given the last week as time to study/move/etc. Interns start on June 24th each year, so they get the week back at the end.

ParticipantHi Sara! We send our residents to the Miller Review course which is ALWAYS the week before and includes memorial day weekend. Their last day of clinical duty is always June 23rd no matter when it falls and they are charged 5 days vacation.
