Hi Colleagues:
I get the impression that more Ortho residency programs have gone back to in-person interviews this year. Does anyone have any info on what percentage of Ortho residency programs are interviewing In-person vs. Virtual?
Our interviews are virtual again this year but I think many of our faculty would like to see a return to in person interviews.
Thank you all and Happy Holidays!

I know not every program belongs to CORD but I think there is probably enough information available in ORIN to be helpful, assuming that the programs that are part of CORD are updating their information in ORIN. According to ORIN, there are 63 programs interviewing virtually and 116 programs interviewing in-person.
Hope this helps some.

I think the stats are something like 80-90% of programs are back to in-person interviews. The University of Chicago was in person, but, to my knowledge, not all of Chicago programs are.

I’m not sure about the percentage but I will say that we (UCSF Fresno) have been virtual since COVID due to the entire UC system making that decision but this year our DIO informed us that most of the UC’s (Ortho Only) have fought back to get in-person interviews again so at our institution we are the only department being allowed to go back to in-person interviews this year while all the others stay virtual. Hope this helps.

We have been virtual since COVID, and all programs in our institution are still interviewing virtually this year per direction from our DIO. Our Program Director has been very happy with our virtual interview experience and plans to keep our interviews virtual going forward.
Thank you!

December 19, 2024 at 1:29 pm #6079Kim ReisingKeymasterWe have been back to in-person since last year. During our interviews yesterday, most of the applicants told me that majority of their interviews are in- person this year with very few virtual interviews.

We’re doing virtual for the students who rotated with us and an in-person interview day for those who didn’t/couldn’t. And I will tell you– we’re going back to all virtual next year. We haven’t even had our interviews yet and we’re already planning something different next year. I’ll spare you the long story of why, but basically, our in-person day is now a small gathering because the applicants want to be virtual.

Our program at Loyola University is still virtual while a lot of faculty would like to go back to in person. Luckily our institution is giving us the opportunity to do either or. We hope to be back to in person next interview season.
