Question for coordinators. We are revisiting our time off/leave policy for our residents and are curious what other programs are doing for the residents’ time off. How many days off does each class get? Do you allow extra time for PGY 4s who are out on fellowship interviews? Any input would be appreciated.

    Hi Darcey
We give all our residents 20 days. 15 days towards vacation and 5 days towards education. For our PGY4 doing interviews, we provide them an additional 5 days for interviews.

    Hi Darcey!
Our residents receive 21 days, 15 weekdays and 6 weekend days, for vacation. Our PGY2 – PGY5 residents receive 7 days for elective conferences, 5 weekdays and 2 weekend days. They can apply for an additional 3 conference days if they are accepted for a podium or poster presentation at a conference.
Our PGY-4s get an additional 5 days for interviews for fellowship. If they are going directly into practice after residency, they can use those additional 5 days in their PGY-4 and PGY-5 year for employment interviews.

    Hi Darcey-

Our residents get 20 vacation days. Vacation weeks are to be take Monday-Friday and they get both weekends as well but we only charge them for the 5 weekdays per each vacation week. They also get 5 sick days. For our PGY4’s fellowship interviews we allow up to 10 additional days. This is for their travel time and interviews, not 10 interviews. Each class gets a sponsored meeting each year by the department.
PGY-2’s – Fall OTA Residents Fracture Course and Annual Meeting
PGY-3’s – Musculoskeletal Pathology in Gainesville
    PGY-4’s – AAOS Annual Meeting
    PGY-5’s – Maine Review Course

When traveling for a paper/poster presentation they get to travel the day before and the day after the presentation.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Darcey-

All of our residents get 4 weeks vacation. The vacation schedule is made right before each academic year so everyone knows in advance when their time off is. For our PGY4’s we allow them to schedule 3 weeks vacation and the 4th week is used as floating days for interviews. We give them a few additional days if need be, but beyond that if they need more time they owe us days back.
