    Dr AmesHello ARCOS Members!

We have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in a study that was initially created to promote the growth and well-being of our students and residents and is currently researching orthopaedic coordinators!!  Please review the project conducted by Dr. Slavin (link below), who announced at the 2024 ARCOS Conference that he and Drs Ames (pictured) and Ponce would like to add ARCOS Coordinators to this study!

To become a part of the study you will just need to register (Link below-takes less than 2-3 minutes).  More details are below in a letter from Dr Ames.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Happy spring, ARCOS.  Crocuses are up, new minimums are out for comment, and we are all getting ready to onboard some and graduate others.  Hopeful times reminded me to start the flourishing project.

The flourishing project is led by me, Brent Ponce, and Stuart Slavin – crew you met in San Francisco.  We are fortunate to be funded by the Kern Foundation who also provides all the infrastructure – our effort to keep this completely separate from institutions and from your work world.  It has taken us some extra time but is much better for all.

We will survey this group (ARCOS) three times – now (heading into crazy times), in the fall as the academic year kicks off (crazy times), and between the holidays and your spring meeting (less crazy times?!?).  We could repeat the cycle after that.  We will be able to update you at the spring meeting.

This effort builds on – and chases details – the things Dr. Slavin was able to tease out about our group from the overall ACGME coordinator survey.  It is a way to look more specifically at this group.

    Two steps:

    1)      You need to create your own account.  The link below takes you to the site to do that.  You will notice that this is housed with Kern.

    • a.       Note:  the access you create is your own, password protected.
    • b.       It will ask you a few demographic questions – none of that can be traced to you.
    • c.       Use any email you like – personal are fine.  The surveys will be sent only using that.

    2)      Once you create your account you are done!  Info will be sent to you automatically whenever you sign up in the survey window.  That will be true for every time period moving forward.

The link to sign up is live (just tested it!) at https://redcap.link/flourishingproject.

Questions/concerns?  Feel free to use my cell at 802 598 3856 or fire me an email at elizabeth.ames@med.uvm.edu.  I won’t mind the distraction one bit.

    Best,

    Elise

    Call To Action.

An Update from Dr Ames and Drs Ponce and Slavin – There is still time to sign up for the important ARCOS Flourishing Index Study!!  It is all about us and could lead to very positive changes to our profession.  ~Laurel

Thank you to those of you that have signed up to explore the Flourishing Index with Stuart, Brent and I.  It was really great to see such a high early response – it would seem that this group would like some help, and we hear you.

You can still register for the Flourishing Index (FI) study. https://redcap.link/flourishingproject.  Since we were late getting off the ground you should still then get access to all the spring items.  You are welcome to contact me if you don’t!

The FI is a 12-question assessment that explores how happiness, meaning, purpose, virtue, and close social relationships impact individual well-being. Our goal is to evaluate the correlation of the Flourishing Index with other historical wellness measures in those who are essential to running orthopaedic residency programs.   That’s you…..

Best, and happy summer.  Here’s hoping the worst of the on-boarding storm is behind you.
