Good morning,
My PD is curious how many programs will be doing in-person interviews this fall/winter and how many will be doing virtual again.
We are hoping for in-person but want to play it safe as well. Anyone doing a hybrid of both?
Thanks for your feedback,
Jess
June 8, 2021 at 10:22 am #2773Laurie LynchKeymasterHi Jess! Here in Kalamazoo we are waiting on the CoPA recommendations, but hoping and planning for a slightly more normal season. Right now we plan to host in-person interviews for those invited after ERAS opens, but conduct virtual interviews with our home students and students who completed a visiting rotation with us. We have discussed another virtual date for those with budget or distance challenges, but have not worked out the logistics of that yet.

July 6, 2021 at 1:27 pm #2804Darlene ClintonParticipantOur Institution is requiring all residency and fellowship interviews to be Virtual again this year.
July 6, 2021 at 1:31 pm #2805AnonymousInactiveHere at Loma Linda University we are waiting for our GME office to decide. They would like it consistent among all programs.
July 6, 2021 at 1:37 pm #2806Ramona GuydenParticipantHere at JPS in Texas, my PD has me planning for in-person, but we are waiting on our GME dept to decide on virtual or in-person. Personally, I am hoping for virtual again this year.
July 7, 2021 at 7:19 am #2808Melissa WheelerKeymasterWe were told by our GME office this week that we will be virtual again this year here at Summa Health in Akron, OH.
July 7, 2021 at 3:07 pm #2809Lisa HernandezParticipantMy PD wants to have in-person back this year. No actual update from the GME but we are back to “business as usual” .

July 7, 2021 at 4:22 pm #2811Chandra CrumpParticipantVCU is offering both in-person and remote interview options.
July 7, 2021 at 4:29 pm #2814Jolene KruegerParticipantAt Nebraska we are waiting to see if we have to follow any guidelines again this year, but I’d prefer to do in-person interviews. The faculty however, really liked virtual and want to keep it that way. The residents would like in-person as well.

July 7, 2021 at 4:40 pm #2818Amy KrausParticipantWaiting on our institution and GME guidelines. We are hoping to provide a hybrid process but will likely be all virtual.
We prefer in-person interviews yet see some benefits in providing a virtual component.
July 7, 2021 at 5:47 pm #2820AnonymousInactiveMy PD wants in-person without a doubt. So do the residents. No word on any requirements yet.

July 8, 2021 at 7:39 am #2821Wendy ThompsonParticipantDuke is requiring virtual-only format again this year due to recommendations from the Coalition for Physician Accountability and potential benefits of virtual interviewing being more inclusive of a diverse pool of applicants, some of whom may have limited budgets for travel.
July 8, 2021 at 2:14 pm #2828Vanessa GlotzbachParticipantOur faculty would like to do in-person interviews for all of our fellowships however we are waiting for guidance from AAOS. Based on last year, I imagine that if there are schools who are not allowing travel and are planning for virtual that we will receive guidance that all programs interview virtually to make the interview process more equitable.
