Hi Sara- we purchase captain’s chairs for the graduating chief residents from Standard Chair of Gardner in Gardner, MA.

the contact is Wendy Doody at wendy@standardchair.com

the chiefs love them- a great reminder of their time here at MUSC ortho.    It was so nice to meet many of you in Vegas!  Joan

We get large, 18″x16″ plaques made with pictures of x-rays (they choose the case(s))  – it’s usually a case they are proud of or something they learned from – it’s really whatever they want it to be.  It includes an inscription/words of wisdom from our Chairman and Program Director and it includes their names/dates or residency on it.

Our graduates get a Tree of Andry from https://www.orthopaediclist.com/category/manufacturer-cave-folk-creations-manufacturer.html from the residency.  They are beautiful!  Each one is handmade and comes in a huge box to protect the artwork.  The GME department gets them the captain’s chairs described by Joan and a mantle clock.

Residents and fellows also get an acrylic “award” for lack of a better term, that we created with their name, our logo, grad date, and the last stanza of Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Less Traveled (my favorite 😉 ).

Congratulations on graduating your first class, Sara!!

Hi Sara! Exciting time to graduate your first class!

We have a watercolor print of the medical school campus matted, with their name and years of residency inscribed on the mat by a local calligrapher. They receive a tie or scarf in our school colors with the department logo. They also receive 5×7 prints of the full department photo (residents and faculty), a photo of the chiefs with our PD and chair, and a photo of the chiefs alone.

We give them custom Stetson hats that are made here in Texas.  One of our faculty members is the team doctor for the Dallas Cowboys, and you always recognize him when he is on the field since he wears a cowboy hat, so we have the same one made for our residents. Our GME office gives them a medallion with their name on one side and carved out picture of the hospital on the other side.

Hi Sara!  We have their completion certificates framed in a custom frame with the University name and seal and the mat is in the University colors. https://www.universityframes.com/.   The frames are shipped directly to me and then I put their certificates in the frame.  We also give them an executive swivel chair from standard chair, again with the University seal on the front and then they laser engrave the back of the chair with their name and Class of 2023 https://www.standardchair.com/Swivel_Desk_Chair/c55.
