    Hi All,

Our University has cancelled graduation events so we’re trying to brainstorm ways to virtually celebrate. Since I’m sure many of us are in this position, I thought this would be a good place to share ideas for virtual celebrations.

    Thanks!

    Hi Kathleen,
Most likely, we will try and replicate our graduation dinner over Zoom–including asking people to dress up! It will involve a lot of screen sharing–the Chair will speak, the PD will speak, each chief will talk, too I think the biggest challenge will be to ensure everyone’s microphone stays muted. We will try to make it as close to our usual celebration as we can.

    Good luck

Now that we are into April, I think we are all in the same place trying to figure out how best to honor our graduates.

Have any programs come up with an alternative to the formal graduation presentations and dinner? We are creating a committee to come up with ways to still honor them but comply with what most likely will still be large gathering bans.

This is a great group to start coming up with shared ideas. Perhaps we can share ideas and build off each other’s ideas to make Orthopaedic graduations through-out the country comparable to what they have historically been.

    Thank you for any ideas.

Our coordinators group here at UAMS have been talking about different ideas. One program is collecting money from Faculty members and will order dinner for each graduating resident and their families and have it delivered to their homes. The rest of the dept will join in for a virtual dinner and graduation via Zoom.

Each year we have our graduation at our institution in an auditorium. I had thought instead of everyone coming there we could just have the graduates come and one at a time walk across the stage for graduation and the chair and PD could give their diplomas and their families and the dept members can watch via Zoom or FB. It would be a smaller group and could stay 6 feet apart. I doubt this one will fly but trying to come up with something fun.
