    Hi all!  Happy Friday

I am second guessing myself, so I thought I would get some input from my colleagues…

As you know, I have 2 Fellowship Openings for AY 24-25.  I have gotten LOTS of interest from international candidates.  We do not sponsor Visas or Green Cards… They would have to be legal already to hold a job in the US.  Is it OK to ask them if they are legal to work in the US via email?  To filter a bit the amount of interested applicants before I forward them to my PD and APD… ? Or is that considered rude and even racist?  How else would you word the question to be strictly about not wasting their time waiting to see if we would interview them?

Let me clarify that I am a naturalized citizen from Argentina who has been in the US for 25 years-so I am very familiar with the process and I myself do not feel offended if an employer would ask me that question… But, I am aware that not everyone feels the same.

    Thank you!

The ERAS application has 2 questions:

Authorized to work in the US?

    Current work authorization?

I wouldn’t think it to be rude or racist if you ask.

I agree with what Michelle has offered for language used in ERAS.
