    Hello Everyone,

I have taken over as an Orthopedic Res Coordinator for a young (on our second year) program. Prior to this, I did medical students for 9 years so I am still learning about ACGME and ABOS requirements and how to be a residency coordinator.
I wanted to ask if anyone is willing to share a copy of their didactic schedule and/or best practices. I would love to know how your programs handle building and the choosing content if you don’t mind sharing. The previous coordinator built an outline for the full year, however, I don’t believe had much weigh-in from the PD or APD.

I appreciate your help and look forward to meeting everyone at future conferences!

Hi Erin – welcome to the crazy world of GME!

Our didactics are set up monthly, and are based by sub-specialty:

    January – Spine
    February – Adult Recon
    March – Faculty Development
    etc

For the months that are sub-specialty focused, we have assigned Curriculum Chairs (faculty that have volunteered to lead the month every year) that will plan the weekly grand rounds topics/speakers, Journal Clubs, skills labs, and invites visiting professors. Otherwise our PD will plan the other months.

I’ve attached a copy of a recent Conference schedule that is distributed to residents, faculty, med students, etc.

Hope this helps you! Good luck!

We have conferences every morning 7-8 am and journal club one evening a month. The directors of the rotations are responsible for the curriculum for their sub specialty. Any faculty member can invite a guest lecturer for Grand Rounds, as well as present a Grand Rounds. Labs are always held on a Thursday when residents can be blocked 7-9 am. Our OITE Review is held for two weeks in August and the two weeks prior to the exam are cleared for study time. I attached our October calendar and they are much the same September-May.

    Donna,
Questions: What are your residents’ responsibilities during the time that is blocked for OITE study? Are they off to study independently?
We have a similar schedule beginning at 0630 – 0715 dedicated to different specialties presented by faculty members and then a daily trauma sign out, 0715 – 0800. The didactic sessions try to incorporate OITE topics into their lectures.

Welcome, Erin! You are going to be GREAT!
