    Dear ARCOS Members,

After much deliberation on the part of the ARCOS Board of Directors, it is with great disappointment that we must announce the ARCOS Annual Meeting in San Diego, August 31 – September 3, 2021, has been canceled. As the board discussed options, results of the “Upcoming ARCOS Annual Meetings” survey that you completed in February 2021 weighed heavily. This is not a decision that was taken lightly and the vote among board members was unanimous.

    Factors we considered:

    • Institutional travel restrictions – many members do not know when their current travel ban will be lifted (including board members)
    • Uncertainty about institutional/departmental funding for educational meetings and reimbursement
    • Uncertainty about institutional/departments allowing travel to 2 meetings in the same budget year
    • Concerns that speakers may not be able to attend

In addition to the above, the state of California has not begun the reopening process. The reopening timeline for California depends on state and local revisions to restrictions on public gatherings.

It is the job of the Board of Directors to make sure that we put on the best meeting possible with an agenda that will fulfill the needs of our members. While things are starting to slowly reopen and move toward the direction of “normal” we still have a lot of unknowns at the present time, which makes it difficult to plan our annual meeting responsibly. We hope that you will understand and know that we are only doing what we feel is best for ARCOS.

    Moving forward

Watch your email and the Community Forum for a special announcement coming soon for virtual opportunities.

    Save the Date

ARCOS Annual Meeting, March 22-25, 2022 in Chicago. Details will be available in the late summer/early fall.

We hope that by making this decision well in advance, that this will allow you the opportunity to attend the meeting in March 2022. We look forward to seeing you all in Chicago!

    Sincerely,
    The ARCOS Board of Directors

I know this was a very difficult decision for the Board and commend you for the courage to make it.  There is a lot of pressure in both directions right now so thank you for your leadership.  We all hope to be together in Chicago in 2022!!
