AAOS Travel

Just wanted to see if any of your institutions are banning travel for faculty or residents to the AAOS meeting. We are seeing several institutions banning travel and wondered about residents traveling.

Hi Darlene,

Here at Montefiore employees have been banned from any international business related travel. However on Friday my Chairman decided we will not be going to AAOS this year. He think’s its too risky and unless something should change, unfortunately I won’t be at ARCOS this year. Our residents are very disappointed, but apparently many New York City hospitals aren’t letting their doctors travel to AAOS.

As of last Friday, our hospital has suspended all domestic travel through April 30th, so I am unable to attend as well. Actually on line with hotel to see if I can get a refund for the 1 night charged to hold room. None of our residents can attend AAOS either.

Hi Darlene
Here at Loyola (suburb of Chicago), just received an email regarding banning any business travel until the end of the month. Our residents and faculty will no longer be attending AAOS as well as myself not be able to attend ARCOS. Many hospitals in the Chicagoland area are being placed on a no business travel ban.

We had an ACGME site visit scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 that they canceled Friday, after preparing for weeks! They are planning to do a virtual visit and are working on logistics for that.

Heard AAOS is having an emergency meeting today. I think we should know something soon if it will take place or not.

The UT Health Science Center has only stopped international travel at this time. As of today, I plan to attend the meeting. UTHSC did issue a statement outlining reimbursement if a meeting is cancelled due to the virus.

I am from Michigan. Our state doesn’t have any confirmed cases as of now and our health system is sending us weekly COVID-19 blasts on Fridays. At this moment, we do not have a travel ban, however, I have been wondering if this was going to get cancelled as other conferences have cancelled in Florida.

Here at NY-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Irving Medical Center all international travel is banned and all travel to conferences is banned indefinitely. Myself, all of our coordinators, all of our faculty and all trainees had to cancel our trips to the ARCOS and AAOS annual meetings.

At University of Washington in Seattle, we were just banned from traveling and I won’t be attending ARCOS and our faculty and residents won’t be attending AAOS. It is a relief to me, since Washington state has been hit hard by Covid 19. Currently, anyone that can work from home, is working from home.

I’m in Michigan and our institution has banned all out-of-state business travel (personal travel is fine) for non-essential trips. Conferences/presentations are not considered “essential” so I won’t be attending ARCOS and our faculty/residents won’t be attending AAOS.

Mount Sinai (New York) just received word that we are not allowed to travel for business so I will not be at ARCOS this year, nor any of my residents, who are very disappointed. All faculty will not be attending AAOS as well.

Over the weekend, our hospital (OHSU in Portland, Oregon) announced that they are prohibiting all business-related travel, domestic and international. Personal travel is not affected.

As of today, JPS Hospital (Fort Worth, Tx) has not issued a travel ban for employees or residents. My residents are hoping AAOS will still go on as planned and myself being new I am hoping ARCOS conference still goes on as planned because I was totally looking forward to ARCOS:)

As of now, Henry Ford Health System in Detroit is still allowing our travel to continue. So happy because I always get so much out of the ARCOS conference. I have been monitoring the AAOS website and they are still planning to proceed with their annual meeting/conference.

Northwestern (Chicago) Does not have a travel ban. I plan to attend the conference.
