Lauren LentiniParticipantHi All,
I am currently in my second year as PC for our ortho residency. I have recently been tasked with being the PC for a brand new ortho hand surgery fellowship, and I am looking for some advice!
I know for the ortho residency, our program follows the universal offer day timeline. Is there a separate timeline for the hand fellowship program?
Secondly, how do you manage and organize your fellowship interviews? Do you use Thalamus for fellowships, or do you do it separately? Currently, our hand program is accepting applications through the ASSH site (American Society for Surgery of the Hand).
Any advice is welcomed (and I’m sure I will have follow-up questions)!

Audrey BellParticipantHi!
We interview in person and I use Bookings to schedule interviews. Also, this information is helpful.
“Dear Program Directors and Coordinators,
Good afternoon! We wanted to share the critical dates for the upcoming hand fellowship cycle.
· Portal opened up for Hand fellows on September 16
Universal application deadline: Monday, November 17
Recommended interview invitation date is December 15We strongly recommend sending interview invitations by 12:00 midnight EST on December 15, and recommend giving invited applicants 48 hours to respond before extending invitations to other applicants — that response deadline would be Wednesday, December 17 at 12:00 midnight EST.
If you would like to add your program’s interview dates to the master calendar, you can access it here: https://www.assh.org/s/hfda-interview-calendar. Click “Create Event” and complete the form that pops up.
If you have any trouble with the portal or the calendar, please reach out to hfda@assh.org or Charlotte Grill (cgrill@assh.org).
We have also attached the powerpoint presentation from the HFDA retreat at Annual meeting 2026. We hope this is a valuable resource. For next steps, we will be preparing and sharing the next HFDA survey to share with you all in the coming months.
Thank you,
Catherine Curtin, MD, Chair

Lucy SalgadoKeymasterHi Lauren
Yes there is a separate timeline per ASSH. Communication is sent via email. you can also check their website.
I do not use thalamus. I do everything on my own (spreadsheets, etc). feel free to reach to me via email. lucy.salgado@luhs.org

Audrey BellParticipantI have Bookings as a part of my Microsoft Outlook package. It is an app in Outlook.
I used an online tutorial and haven’t had any problems.October 7, 2026 at 12:03 pm #9352
Amy VincentParticipantHi Lauren,
Our department doesn’t have a hand fellowship, though we do have 3 fellowships, which I manage. I do use Thalamus to send out the initial invites and for scheduling. We’re also planning to use it for scorecards and ranking for one fellowship this year. Please feel free to reach out to me at vincent@ortho.wisc.edu if you have any questions about using Thalamus for fellowships or programs that do not use ERAS for applications.
Amy
