Marie DiNardoParticipantHello,
Do you have your residents take the OITE together as a group or individually? I know you have to do one or the other. Historically, we’ve always had them test all together as a group on a Saturday.
Thank you,

Noreen CorcoranParticipantHi Marie!
We split our residents into 2 testing groups (Saturday & Sunday) and have them take it virtually. It helps with service coverage that they are not all out at the same time. Our Admin Chiefs divide the residents and assign testing dates.I hope that helps!

Laurie LynchKeymasterHi Marie!
We are still sticking with tradition and having them test in person, in a group, on Saturday. October 31 this year so several can attend the AAHKS conference the following Saturday. My program director feels it is a bonding experience to have them test together!

Robin SasaokaParticipantHi Marie,
Our residents test virtually, and we’ve chosen 3 dates (October 30, 31, and November 7) to allow for coverage. Our Program Director reviews the schedule and coverage needs and assigns the dates for each resident.
Thank you,

Kelly KovacsParticipantMy residents test in-person / all residents on same day / a Saturday. An attending holds the pager during the exam.
As Laurie said, tradition of it.. They go celebrate as a group afterwards.
We’re doing Nov. 7th this year. Had one or two residents ask about AAHKS… I could set them up with the test center to take the exam earlier than the group, but I haven’t discussed that with my PD. Not sure how serious the AAHKS inquiries were as I haven’t heard any more talk about it.
Side story– my previous PD would not allow split dates. Had a resident go to AAHKS and red-eye back for exam day. He arrived late and selected ‘C’ for every question then left. PD was not happy with the score report. Asked if we need to be concerned about the resident, etc. I told PD we don’t need to worry; he was being defiant against you not letting him take it separately to attend the conference. Heard about that OITE score for the next two years until that resident graduated.

Starla PathakParticipantAt Tufts, we have them test virtually. We have selected November 6th and 7th as our testing dates, so that we have coverage on each testing day, with Oct. 30th as our alternate date. It’s worked well for us. I loved having them test all together in the testing room at the school, but now that we have to have two individuals as proctors for in-person testing, I don’t have a back up to help.

Lisa HernandezParticipantAt UF we always do in-person (2 days) Friday and Saturday to accommodate call.

Cindy ThompsonParticipantAt WVU, due to the changes to the OITE proctoring guidelines several years ago, we transitioned from in-person testing over two days to remote proctoring over two days. We still provide a testing location (faculty offices) for residents who would prefer to test there, but the exam itself is remotely proctored.
