Joan GraeschParticipantHi All-
For my first time in 6+ years- I have a female resident who will deliver her first baby in April. Thinking we would like to do something for her, but with mostly men in the residency program– do any of you have a good idea of what we can do instead of a normal ‘baby shower’? Or maybe a different sort of gift for an ‘ortho baby’? thanks- good to see you all in Jax!

Audrey BellParticipantI have found some cute ortho gifts at cafepress.com. Cute onsies, “future orthopedic surgeon”, “orthopedic surgeon in training”, etc. I found one with a medical diagram of a hand for one of our hand surgeon’s baby.

Lee Ann FinnoParticipantCo-ed showers are just as fun. I have gotten my fellows/attendings who are expecting baby scrubs in the past makes for a cute gift as well as a skeleton baby halloween costume (always about bones)!
Enjoy and congrats!

Kim ReisingKeymasterHi Joan,
When one of our residents is having their first baby, we usually host a diaper party. We collect a ton of diapers, and everyone decorates them or writes a cute message on them. The idea is that when mom or dad is up during the night and more than a little sleep-deprived, the diapers provide a bit of humor and a small pick-me-up.

Laurel LewisKeymasterAll great ideas!!!
I don’t go that fancy; I just get the baby’s details and pictures of baby and family and make a poster for my door. The problem is, I hate taking them down! I also make a poster for new pets!
