Kelly KovacsParticipantHello ARCOS!
My program is primarily M.D., however I have one D.O. that is now a PGY3.
I’m hoping to chat with someone about the differences in board eligibility, board review options, etc.
Anyone with experience/insight – I’d appreciate a connection.
Thank you!

Laura BrownKeymasterLaurel Lewis would love to help you.
Just kidding– though I’m sure she’d talk to you too. We’re both historically Osteopathic residency programs. Feel free to email me: laura.r.brown@okstate.edu

Courtney MatlachKeymasterHi Kelly,
I have a primarily MD program too although we just had our first DO graduate this past year. When it came time for boards we thought she would take the AOBOS boards, but once we checked with her she actually opted to take the ABOS boards like the rest of her class. So we didn’t have to do anything differently then what we normally do to get them ready for boards.

Laurel LewisKeymasterHahahah, Nice, LB. You can email us both.
These are fair questions that LB and I might have to ask about MDs!! It is up to the resident, but they are able to take either the AOBOS (typically held in Apr/May in their 4th – with PD permission, or 5th year) or ABOS (as long as they participate in KSB). The AOAO held in April 2026 holds a $100 Board Review Course at that conference. Other than that, my residents use OrthoBullets and we just signed up for the AAOS Bundle for the first time.
I think it should also be made clear that DOs are NOT Podiatrists, in case anyone is wondering. (Sorry, could not resist!! LOL)
Hope everyone is having a nice Thursday!
~Laurel
