Hi All:
Are your residents counting surgical cases using loupes as “microsurgery” cases though they are not using an actual microscope?
Last year, Dr. Derstine said the definition of microsurgery is
Case involved use of a microscope in the repair of a nerve or vessel (cases with loupes do NOT count).
No, cases done with loupes do not count in the microsurgery category.
Thank you for your quick responses. Are your attendings increasingly using loupes instead of microscopes? If so, what you are folks doing to make up for microsurgery cases?
